Turkish Navy-led operation frees MV LUTUF from Puntland pirates in the Indian Ocean

Pirates linked to Puntland President Said Deni, who had seized the MV LUTUF, a vessel carrying Turkish military supplies, were forced to abandon the ship following a joint operation by the Turkish Navy and the Somali Armed Forces.

According to information obtained from security sources, the Turkish Navy warships TCG Gelibolu and TCG Göksu applied pressure in the area for around 10 days. During this period, four pirate boats were destroyed and 14 pirates were killed.

Sources said the operation was carried out in cooperation between the Somali and Turkish armed forces, and that the pirates were forced to leave the ship in the face of mounting military pressure.
