Burhan Breaks the Axis: Sudan's Comeback and the Defeat of the UAE-Ethiopia-Israel Project
Turkish Ambassador to Sudan Fatih Yıldız reaffirmed Ankara’s support for Sudan’s unity and state institutions as he concluded his two-year tenure in the country, declaring that Sudanese state institutions “cannot be placed on an equal footing” with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Yıldız made the remarks following his farewell meeting with Sovereignty Council Chairman and Sudanese Armed Forces Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan at the Presidential Palace in Khartoum on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Burhan awarded Yıldız the First Class Order of the Two Niles in recognition of his efforts to strengthen longstanding relations and ties between Turkey and Sudan.
Reflecting on his time in the country, Yıldız said Sudan’s future depends on preserving its unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as strengthening its existing institutions.
“At this very critical juncture, the leadership of President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan carries an important responsibility in safeguarding the unity and continuity of Sudan and its state,” Yıldız said.
He stressed that Turkey would continue to stand with Sudan, adding: “We have always been clear that Sudan’s state institutions cannot be placed on an equal footing with the RSF, with the militia.”
Yıldız said preserving and strengthening state institutions is essential to safeguarding Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and continuity. At the same time, he emphasized that lasting peace must be achieved through an inclusive process in which the Sudanese people determine the future of their own country.
The ambassador also pledged Turkish support for Sudan’s reconstruction, saying, “When you build this country again, Turkey will be on your side, as it has been for centuries.”
Describing Turkish-Sudanese relations as rooted in deep historical ties between the two nations, Yıldız said his departure should not be viewed as a goodbye.
“Ambassadors eventually leave their posts, but friendships do not have a departure time,” he said, expressing hope that peace and stability would return to Sudan and that relations between the two countries would continue to deepen.
