Egypt Rejects Ethiopia’s Claims, Blames Israel on Gaza

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has firmly rejected Ethiopian accusations that Cairo is fuelling internal unrest in the country. Speaking to Sky News Arabia, Abdelatty said the claims are untrue.

Abdelatty stressed that Egypt has no problem with the Ethiopian people. He reiterated that the Nile is an international river governed by international law and that unilateral measures are unacceptable. Cairo restated this position earlier this month in talks with US adviser Massad Boulos.

On Gaza, the minister put the blame squarely on Israel. He held Israel directly responsible for delays in implementing the second phase of the ceasefire agreement and noted that the planned rehabilitation of medical clinics and schools has yet to happen. He also reaffirmed Egypt’s opposition to any plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza.

On Sudan, he said Egypt is working to secure agreement on a future roadmap and is coordinating with Western partners to end the war. Cairo’s contacts with Iran, he added, are aimed at reducing regional tensions.

Abdelatty’s message was clear: there is no military solution to the region’s crises.
